Comment on Consumers Allege Hidden Overcharges by Dollar / Thrifty Rent A Car by GERRY

I rented this car via Cardelmar at San Francisco airport (24.8-31.8.) and returned it today. The rental price and all standard insurances (Third Party, CDW) were fully paid by the CardelMar voucher. When I returned the car today, I realized that I was charge additional charges amounting to 165.72 USD for this rental including fees for “roadsafe”, “Prsnlprotplan” and “emergency sickness insurance”. Indeed these charges were listed on my rental agreement, which I hadn’t looked at before. This came as a complete shock to me since when I rented the car I was never asked with a single word, whether I wanted these additional insurances. Instead I was asked very quickly to tick off various items on an electronic screen and then sign. I was under the impression that this was simply to confirm what was already on my voucher and possibly have inadvertently and unintentionally ticked these extra charges being primed to do so by your agent without any information about what this entails. At no point was I asked – whether out of negligence or an active intention to mislead I cannot tell – , whether I wanted any of these additional insurances and that these would incur extra charges. I would never have agreed to any of these which jointly almost double the price for the car rental! At any rate I feel being tricked into signing up for these extra insurances without being given any information. I assume you have security cameras in place there and can check for yourself th at this was indeed the case. Having not been informed about these extra fees at any point, I expect a letter of apology and full reimbursement of these charges to my credit card. I’d like to add that this experience has been the most unpleasant one I ever had with any car rental company and it ruined the last day of my stay here because I was so angry of having been misled by your sales agent. I complained to the manager at the airport about this
