I rented a car online for the very first time through hotwire. When I went into the rental agency a young lady asked, Am I going to get the partial or full coverage rental insurance? I asked her if I had to get it because I already spoke with my insurance company and they will cover my rental in case of an accident. She stated that I had to get the rental insurance even if it was just partial. I told her on the website it stated it was optional and she repeated her last statement and said the partial was ‘only’ $13 a day. I ended up paying with the impression it was mandatory. Once I received the rental headed out of state to my destination. About 3 hours later my mom called to check to see if I had the rental. I confirmed that I had and that they made me pay for rental insurance. She stated that she has never had to pay that with thrifty before and I need to be sure. I called a new thrifty location in Atlanta on Peach tree road and advised I rented a car with thrifty at the Atlanta airport and told him what the lady advised me on rental insurance. He advised I needed to call and speak with the manager immediately and stated that’s untrue. He said that they make a sell each time we buy rental insurance but they are not allowed to tell the customers that the insurance is mandatory to make a sale and that I should call a manager. I spoke with a manager that was soooooo nasty and rude. She pretty much said I had to bring the carel back in (which at this point I was in Alabama) and get them to redo the contract and also not to mention charge me the $350.00 deposit AGAIN which would mean $700 would be held on my card because of her representative’s lie. I told her I was in Alabama and I could not turn around she caught an attitude with me and stated well I’m notating your account I offered for you to come in and redo the contract (meaning charge me TWICEand have almost $1000 worth of deposit held on my card) and I will not come in. I told her there is a difference between will not and can not come back I am in Alabama and she stated well I’m writing will not and is there anything else I can do for you? Worse customer service among other things I’ve ever encountered in my life!
