10/18/13 Made reservation online through Expedia. Package deal for Plane plus car. Total was $763.12 $344.08 was for Dollar. Paid by Chase card 11/11/13 Picked up car in Houston TX. Told attendant I wanted “the basic rental with no extras” Given the electronic capture pad, clicked through all the screens. Was asked for a credit card and told it was for the security deposit and would not be charged. Used the US Bank card. 11/15/13 Dropped off car, was given a printed receipt which I shoved in my suitcase, then left. 11/27/13 Reconciling receipts and found a charge on the card for $124.16. Checked receipt and found same charge. 11/27/13 Tried to contact Dollar customer service but was closed for holiday. 12/2/13 Got ahold of Dollar by phone and was offered a refund of half the amount. Asked to speak to a supervisor. Was told it would take 8-10 days for them to get back to me. 12/2/13 Filled out complaint form on Dollar’s website. 12/3/13 Contacted US bank by phone and filed a dispute. 12/6/13 was issued a “provisional credit” by US bank 12/16/14 Contacted by email from Dollar. They refused to remove charge citing the electronic signature. Reply email telling them the electronic contract was not what was said verbally. Dollar responded that they “cannot substantiate” what the counter agent said and so would not refund the charge. 1/27/16 Received letter from US bank which said their investigation was concluded in my favor and the provisional credit was made permanent. No further contact of any kind for 5 months 5/21/14 Received letter from Dollar threatening to send to collections in 15 days. Letter is dated 5/8, but not postmarked until 5/16 5/23/14 Emailed Dollar saying that I thought they’d approved the chargeback and again asking them to dismiss the charge.
